The Saints

“What were we talking about just now?”  
In my ears the question grows fangs.

“You were telling me about your first band --
The Saints?"

“Oh yeah,” he says, but he’s only feigning
recall now, to keep the talk going.

And then, after a moment,

“Do you always know who you are?”
